Removing an intimate image of you

If an intimate image or video of you is on Porchkeep and you did not agree to it being here, tell PlainSpan LLC and it comes down within 48 hours of a valid request.

You do not need an account. You can report for someone you are authorised to act for.

Forty-eight hours is the deadline federal law sets. It is not a number invented for this page.

How to report

Email hello@plainspan.com with TAKE IT DOWN in the subject line.

Do not attach the image. A description is enough to find it. Sending it again is not something you should have to do.

What to put in the message

Four things. Write them however you like. None of this needs a lawyer, and nothing here has to be phrased in any particular way.

Your signature
Type your full name at the end of the message. A typed name in an email is an electronic signature and it is enough.
What the image or video is, and where it is
Enough for one person to find it without guessing. A link if you have one. Otherwise the account name, the screen you saw it on, and roughly when.
That it is you, and that you did not agree to it being here
One sentence in your own words. Something like: this is a picture of me and I did not consent to it being published. If you are writing for someone else, say who you are to them and that you are authorised to act for them.
A way to reach you
An email address that works. It is used to answer this report and for nothing else.

What happens next

The content comes down within 48 hours of a valid request. Reasonable efforts also go to finding known identical copies of the same image on Porchkeep.

A close call is resolved by removing the content. Federal law protects a good-faith removal even where the image later turns out to have been lawful, so there is no reason to leave anything up while working out which way it goes.

Reporting here takes nothing else away. The police are still an option, and so are the services below.

If it is on other services too

These are free, they are run by other organisations, and they work across many platforms at once. None of them needs you to send the image anywhere.

  • Take It Down, from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, for images of a person who was under 18 at the time.
  • StopNCII.org for images of an adult.
  • The CyberTipline if the person in the image is under 18. Reports about a minor should go there as well as here.

Where this stands today

Porchkeep is not open. There is no public build, and nothing has been posted to it by anybody. This page and this address work now, which is the point of publishing them early.
